Types and Functions of Websites
There are at least four functions a web site can have. The main categories are a personal website, a commercial website, a government website and a non-profit organization website. Every page on a website can include a hyperlink to any other website, so sometimes it is hard for a visitor to know exactly when he is on one website and not on another. The fact that you can jump so easily from one place to another can blur the distinction between the different websites.
Websites can also be categorized according to how they function. The two main types are dynamic and static. A static website generally serves a similar purpose to a brochure of leaflet. The information stays the same, and is displayed in the same way to all viewers. The information available on a static website stays consistent for an extended period of time. Changes can be made, but this is a manual undertaking that can take some skills.
A dynamic website is a website that changes. It can change itself or customize frequently and automatically, according to established criteria. There are two types of dynamic activity which a dynamic website can have. Those are dynamic code and dynamic content. Dynamic code happens behind the scenes and is not observable, but dynamic content is in view and on display. Dynamic websites are built to save time and are easier to maintain.
